5/5 stars

Excellent (2/3 people found this helpful)

Another excellent novel by a great author. :-)

This is the fourth novel I've read by him, and I wasn't disappointed at all.

It was an excellent story and I enjoyed it. Don't want to say anything about the story because I don't want to spoil it for you.

It was an enjoyable read and the story caught you right from the start.

Compulsive read. :-)

Smith strikes gold ý again (4/5 people found this helpful)

This is a terrific thriller that is compulsive reading from beginning to end. The interesting thing is that in many ways it reads like a more violent version of Arthur Hailey's novels, such as Airport, with characters from all levels of the mining process - which just shows Smith's brilliant versatility. Anyway, I'd rate this as a among his best books.

review of Wilbur Smith's 'Gold Mine' (12/13 people found this helpful)

This is one cracking book.
The way Wilbur Smith writes is incredibly dramatic.
When I read this book I was there with all those sweaty miners, with all the dust and the heat and the back-breaking work. He describes the lives of the miners and the events of the time with amazing clarity. You actually feel that you're there with all the hard-drinking and the hard-living going on. You can almost smell the sweat and gag on the dust. This bloke can write a story!!!

This is an amazing novel of human triumph that is about a man named Rodney Ironsides that is given control of a minning company in Africa, it was given to him, to run by a man named Manfred Steyner who only asks that Rodney simply obey's everything he tells him to do at work, the minning company begins to make alot of money but sacrifices alot of men 's life's in the process, Roney must come to the conclusion if he wants these men's lives on his shoulders, but still make big money, or not.

Gripping! (3/3 people found this helpful)

This is another great book from Wilbur Smith. It does take a couple of chapters to get into but soon you will not be able to put it down. The subject is brilliant, the twists are well though out and there a lot of adventure to keep you reading. Well worth a read.
