Maps no longer up to date! (3/3 people found this helpful)

Went to Gran Canaria March 2005 and used the spiral guide. It's an attractive book with good information. However, there is a lot of development and road building on the island and we found that the maps were not up to date. If you are hiring a car, as we did, I would recommend buying a map on the island when you arrive. Also found the location of some of the sights almost impossible to find, and the guide book was far too vague to help and the Spanish signage was appalling! eg we wanted to visit the gardens in the North - when we eventually found the gardens we did find that the guide book was accurate about the restaurant and gardens.

So handy! (1/4 people found this helpful)

I love these spiral guides that you can get, it's the second one that I've bought to go on holiday, the first one was for New York. They are so handy because you keep them on the page all the time so you're not constantly flipping through to find the map. Also theyre not that large so it will easily go in a pocket or bag. I'd definatly recommend this, and all the other spiral guides

The excellent Spiral Guide to Gran Canaria (12/12 people found this helpful)

I first spotted spiral guides whilst on a plane struggling to read the current guide book I had bought and next to me was a chap with a spiral guide. He was having no trouble because the thing laid flat. After that I resolved to only buy spiral guides.
In April I went to Gran Canaria so I bought the appropriate guide. It is really excellent.Well laid out and well thought out.
We are not very adventurous travellers being grudgingly happy to pay the exorbitant prices for escorted tours. This book gave us the confidence to explore farther afield using the guide. We took the bus to Las Palmas where we visited the Museo de Canarios. Here there is all the history of the ancient Canarians together with mummies. The maps in the book together with bus numbers got us there and also allowed us to find the museum and our way back to the bus station. We also went to Puerto de Mogan by bus as recommended by the author. The only thing I would have liked that wasn't there was the location of the bus stops.Other than that I could not fault it and shall be buying the Mallorcan version for later on in the year.
