Reader Reviews:An entertaining and beautifully illustrated book explaining how the zebra got its stripes. (2/3 people found this helpful)I love this " how the zebra got its stripes" story. The pictures are great, and the opening double page pulls the reader right into a hot and sunny African plain. This plain is, in the story, covered with grazing animals of many shapes, all of whom are pale grey. Then one day the bravest of the animals discovers a huge cave full of glittering furs and skins, tails and other adornments and all the creatures rush to get themselves a striking new look. There are super illustrations of many brightly coloured animals with lovely coat patterns and new horns etc that they have chosen. My boys 3 & 5 also both love the poor old Rhino with his inadequate costume-making, hence his baggy skin. Meanwhile greedy Zebra is still grazing, grey...... He does reach the cave, and his wonderfully expressive eyes grow wider as he makes do with what is left, the end result producing both stripes and a giggle from my young listeners. It's not just the monkeys roaring with laughter. If you are just choosing one book from this lovely series, then I recommend this one over all the others. It's absolutely brilliant. A funny book about how the zebra got his stripes. (1/3 people found this helpful)I have yet to meet a child who doesn't love this wonderful book. It has a great storyline and pictures. You will never look at a zebra in quite the same way again! Beautifully illustrated with a story line to chuckle to (1/4 people found this helpful)An excellent choice for the literacy hour along with all her other books Similar ProductsMama Panya's Pancakes: A Village Tale from Kenya How the Zebra Got Its Stripes (Little Golden Book) Handa's Hen Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain (Picturemacs) Off to the Sweet Shores of Africa: And Other Talking Drum Rhymes CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
