A very good sudoku book with one big problem (2/2 people found this helpful)

Both this book and the Sudoku magazine published by Puzzler Media contain hand-made puzzles by Nikoli, Japan. The blurb on the book's back cover states that the puzzles are 'previously unpublished'. Although that was true at the time of the book's publication, all 100 puzzles have since been printed in issues 5 to 9 of Sudoku magazine.

So, if you are a regular buyer of Puzzler Media's Sudoku magazine, DON'T buy this book, as you will have already completed some or all of the 100 puzzles. On the other hand, if you are NOT a regular buyer of the magazine, then I recommend this book, as it is one of the best sudoku books available (even though the 'Hard' puzzles are not as difficult as those in other books).

(I would have given this book 4 stars, but I subtracted 2 stars for the fact that the puzzles have been printed in the Sudoku magazine.)

A collection of 20 easy, 40 medium and 40 hard puzzles; each one apparently set by hand. This genuinely does make solving them more interesting, especially the Hard puzzles; these are packed with symmetries, partial symmetries and other, often complex, deductive possibilities.

Offers the most entertaining challenge of all the puzzles I've come across. Super Sudoku from the Independent is harder but it is really frustrating and far too time consuming.

The Times puzzles are also good (as long as they are rated Hard or Fiendish), but just not quite as interesting as this collection.

For the less experienced the Medium puzzles will be welcome and again far more interesting than the equivalent puzzles elsewhere. For beginners (do any of you exist any more?) the 20 Easy puzzles should be enough to get you started.
