Reader Reviews:Here be dragons (0/0 people found this helpful)`Guards! Guards!' is the eighth book in the Discworld series and the first to focus on the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. I must admit to not really being much of a fan of the Watch books but after having reread `Guards! Guards!' I may have to make a reappraisal of that view. The story sees a young man named Carrot journey to Ankh-Morpork to join the Watch and have a man made out of him. The only trouble is the Watch is currently staffed by only three officers and they are more interested in keeping their own hides in one piece than keeping the peace and a secret society is planning on summoning a dragon to take over the city.
The loyal guard (0/0 people found this helpful)This is book number eight in the Discworld series and the first introduction to the dedicated members of the city guard.
Guards! Guards! Terry Pratchett (0/0 people found this helpful)This is one of the funniest books of TPs I have read so far, originally borrowed from library I've bought it to ensure I can read it anytime - twice so far, it still makes me laugh out loud. The characters are brilliant and the way TP writes is spot on with his observations, wit and presentation of the life and times of discworld. Great stuff. Another belter from Pratchett (0/0 people found this helpful)I've only recently discovered Pratchett and first got into the witches books Wyrd Sisters (A Discworld Novel). I've now discovered Captain Vimes and Corporal Carrot and can't get enough of these imaginative characters. His writing is extremely clever, witty, fun and unpredictable. Since reading Guards! Guards! I've also finished Men At Arms Men at Arms (Discworld Novels)and it's also very good, if not slightly better! If, like me, you thought Discworld novels were a bit geeky and not for you please try one. I take all my predjudices back - they are fab! enjoy the Guards series. (0/0 people found this helpful)If you love the Disc World and the guards series, this is the first introduction to the Guards, sets you up for a 4 book enjoyable read.
