This is an excellent book. It caters to differing types of hair with lots of clear photographs and easy to follow instructions. Even for younger girls I would recommend it, but with supervision. It's a great way to begin to learn about grooming and developing a style of your own. My only warning is to be prepared to make some time to help out and to shop for accessories. But a superb way to begin learning about grooming and how to take charge of your own appearance. Also positive sections on healthy hair, hairdressers and picking a style. (Although the focus is mainly on longish styles.)
Highly recommended. The American Girl Library titles are fun and easy to follow. A great way to begin learning how to express yourself.
