I love the Hairy Maclary books - they're are such fun to read. I am so glad that my son loves them as much as I do! He got them as a present for his 2nd birthday and I think they'd see him up to the age of 6-8.
I have more of these books on my wishlist!

My baby son has loved having the Hairy Maclary stories read to him since he was a few months old and so I was delighted to discover this volume of further adventures including two Schnitzel von Krumm stories. The rhymes, alliterative, witty use of language and attractive illustrations make the stories as enjoyable to read aloud for parents as they are for children to listen to. I can honestly say that I never tire of reading them despite having done so dozens of times now. You will find the choruses stick in your head ("Galloping here, galloping there, rollicking, frollicking everywhere!') and I'm sure the combination of humour, rhyme and imagery would entertain a child for years for many years.

Five more brilliant Hairy Maclary (and friends!) stories. Even though my son is only 3 months old the fact that text rhymes holds his attention and fascinates him.

Oh my, the unthinkable has happened; Julia Donaldson is no longer the queen of my daughter's bookshelf. For the first time in 4 years, old favourites like 'Room on the Broom' and 'A squash and a squeeze' have been replaced by the adventures of Hairy Maclary and friends.
So what's so good about this collection of stories? Well, firstly, the illustrations are energetic and just the right side of cute. Ms Dodd's obvious love of dogs jumps right out of the page and licks your face until you're giggling. Secondly, the rhymes are repetetive and lyrical, making reading aloud a pleasure (and encouraging audience participation!). My daughter is just starting to learn to read and the simple vocabulary is a Godsend. Thirdly, five stories in one volume = great value for money.
To sum up, I cannot recommend this book - and others by Ms Dodd - enough. Just be prepared for the odd sniff or two during 'Schnitzel Von Krumm: Forget-Me-Not'.... You have been warned!

This book is simply great. I just loved reading these to my son. He's a bit too old for the stories now, but he absolutely loved them. Well worth buying, the illustrations are great too.
