Back to High School (0/0 people found this helpful)

Well if you are not doing the exam and actually want to learn about EJB dont get this book. Its back to school stuff, loads of theory with no practical and no examples of anything. It focuses on stuff like you must remember this for the exam and that alone.

"setRollbackOnly lives in 2 interfaces etc. etc. This method can be called from this interface but not from this ( x 100 times ) "

For actual development and real use of EJB it's a waste of time. If you just want to program a few EJB's and keep a book beside you as reference, this is not gonna be your reference book! Also you wont learn enough from this book to do that as you are left to do all the practicals on your own.

It is so longwinded 600 and something pages and it just keeps repeating itself. It's like that high school teacher, teaching you something you do not need to remember for real life, but do need to remember to pass a stupid exam!

Works (1/1 people found this helpful)

This book is focused on passing SCBCD exam. If you are looking for J2EE design or reference text, I'd suggest something else. However for passing exam it is number one. Worked for me.

Very efficient as a guide for the exam (1/1 people found this helpful)

I used only this book to prepare for the SCBCD exam, and I've got 95%. The mock exam is quite close to the real exam questions by the level of difficulty. This is an invaluable book when you are overloaded by work and studies, it's humour helps to retain comprehension.

Excellent concept, poor delivery (1/7 people found this helpful)

I have to say, I was initially impressed by the idea of this book, however after reading through the book, I found it very difficult to extract information and identify the key points. Frankly, the illustrative methods used in this book do get frustrating after a while. In conclusion, this book is all you should need to pass the exam, but I have to say it requires a certain level of patience....which is rare.

great for passing the exam (3/4 people found this helpful)

I used this book to pass the exam with about a weeks preparation. It covers the syllabus of the exam pretty comprehensively. Its an engaging read for an EJB book, and does an excellent job of describing concepts. As for gripes, I think it would have been nice to have had some practical coding examples for each chapter (even if not mentioned in the book, to have access to on the website). Also, although the explanations are clear and innovative, they can sometimes seem a bit long winded, which can be a pain when revising. All in all, excellent value for money.
