Reader Reviews:Over simplistic and patronising (0/0 people found this helpful)I had high hopes for this book but I found it to be both boring, lacking depth and patronising - to such a point that I feel she is boarding on dangerous parameters. The author comes accross as very smug which is off putting too. breezey read and funny, suprisingly informative (0/0 people found this helpful)i would recommend this book to anyone interested in the spiritual side of india..unless you have studied the subject quite deeply you will learn more than you realise from reading this..her style is very light but she does impart a lot of information.
Self centred and self serving (0/0 people found this helpful)I didn't like this at all. Sarah's descriptions of cutlural life in India read to me like tatler - only more smug. I thought she was a taker, only ever looking for what she could get out of the country and in seeking to broaden her horizons she just came across as more and more narrow minded. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Great stories, not so great narrator! (2/2 people found this helpful)I really enjoyed reading about India and its people in this book, however it was the author herself who turned me off reading after about 70 pages, once I realised it was all about her and not the country she was, after all, a guest in... I should have trusted my instincts when the opening pages started with foul language. It didn't get much better after that. Each experience was turned to a self-indulgent opportunity for insult, disrespect and attempts at humour that more often than not missed the mark. No doubt, it was often a very difficult time for her but the whole approach could have been a lot better. Brilliant and Funny (0/0 people found this helpful)The account of a girl's journey through India learning about the people and the various religions of the country. It also reads as an honest open-minded A-Z of the world's religions. She gives fascinating spot on descriptions of the most interesting country in the world making this a very interesting brilliantly written book that's funny without even trying.
