Reader Reviews:a reminder of a much-missed programme. (1/1 people found this helpful)I absolutely loved having a well-deserved (well, I thought so!) lie-in on a Saturday morning and tuning in to John Peel's (and later David Stafford's and Michael Rosen's) dulcet tones on Home Truths. It was a delightful programme - whimsical, funny, sad and occasionally very moving. It also provided a vehicle for those whose voices were unlikely ever to be heard otherwise, but had a fascinating tale to tell. Sadly it has been replaced by a pale imitation, but this book contains some gems from the series. A cross section of very human stories, not always earth-shattering in their impact, but always of great charm and poignancy. Particularly heartbreaking is the story of the death of J P Devlin's childhood sweetheart many years ago. I can never recall this without my eyes misting over, as her description is so like that of my own lovely wife (thankfully very much alive). Please do buy it.
