Editorial Review:

How To Do Everything With Your iMac does just what the title promises, covering all things iMac from setting up your machine to editing QuickTime movies to connecting your iMac to a network. Todd Stauffer, best known as co-host of the TV series Disk Doctors, has written a book that is all things to all people who use an iMac.

Stauffer's attention to detail is what makes this book work. Even relatively simple tasks, such as formatting a text document, receive thorough treatment in his hands. Unlike many books on using the Mac, How To Do Everything doesn't give the short shrift to running business applications. Stauffer gives ample time to working with spreadsheets and databases, as well as Intuit's Quicken personal finance software, instead of perpetuating the myth that the iMac is only for working with graphics or surfing the Internet.

Stauffer does, of course, place particular weight on working online, taking you through the nuts and bolts of encoding e-mail attachments and backing up files on the Web--an important bit of advice, given the iMac's notorious lack of a storage device.

Whether you are a computer novice or an experienced Mac user looking to get more out of your computer, you'll find a wealth of helpful information in this book. How To Do Everything With Your iMac should rest on your desk right next to your tangerine-coloured computer. --John Moore, amazon.com

4/5 stars

Authorative and fresh reference for the i-mac (3/3 people found this helpful)

As someone who uses macs day in and day out, I thought I had it sussed when it came to knowing my way around the machines. This book however opened my eyes to new ways of optimising the different versions of i-macs I use - both at work and home. It is as easily read by myself, (a mac fluent, IT literate professional), as my partner, (a pc literate IT ludite), and even my secretary, (a total computer ludite). It covers all of the different i-mac versions, including a useful DVD section for the latest incarnation, as well as refering to all of the different OS systems the i-macs have been issued with. A very handy all round guide which does not assume you are either a genius nor a dim-wit. It also provides an honest and fresh approach to getting to know your i-mac, advanced techniques with your i-mac and how to correct things if you still manage to get it wrong!
