Reader Reviews:Useful for Newbies (0/0 people found this helpful)I reviewed another publication some time ago regarding Dreamweaver and my critiscism was that it failed to "talk you through" starting at the beginning. This book goes some way towards meeting that objective but it is by no means flawless. It tends to jump about rather than follow a logical path from initiation to completion. Fairly complex procedures are sandwiched between more fundamental tasks. Another reviewer commented that this publication lacked depth, but I have to disagree as a lot of the information went straight over my head during the early stages of my web site creation. I had rather hoped that the illustrations would help but they are little more than thumbnails, many are full screen shots so unless you have 20/20 vision or a magnifying glass you won't be able to read the detail. The basics.. (1/1 people found this helpful)This book provides clear and colorful instructions about how to perform the basics but unlike a lot of more useful books, it doesn't have a case study which helps you to see and follow the design process from start to finish. This book is a basic reference guide for beginners. Publish a page after just 2 hours !! (28/29 people found this helpful)This book is invaluable for the complete beginner, having trawled through the dreamweaver help topics and got no-where, this book is set out in such a way that you can take as much information as you like, skipping over sections which you don't require immediately, building a website within hours. The chapters are well orgainised with full colour step-by-step instructions and cover the absolute basics right through to many of the packages advanced functions. A big thumbs up. Think about it (46/47 people found this helpful)This book is great, but trust me it wont do for long. Sure the info in there is great, its to the point and easy to follow. If you have never seen Dreamweaver or used Dreamweaver before then this book will get you up and running in no time at all. But thats where it stops. Youll find it hard to learn anything more than only the very basics. I would reccommend this book if you were an absolute beginner, but if you have used Dreamweaver before or are an intermediate user, then steer well clear. You can easily put the money you would pay for this book to that of a "Chunkier" and so be it more complicated and daunting book, but as you get more efficient thats exactly what you will need. I think the author did a great job, I personally just found it a little too basic and only scratching the surface of what the most powerful website authoring tool can do. Lon Colley knows how to teach, first rate training book (21/22 people found this helpful)It was Lon Colley who got me into Dreamweaver 4 and Fireworks and at a speed which astonished me. I bought the new MX book to get up to date quickly and have not been disapointed. The explanations are clear and precise and leave nothing to chance. She even manages to cover the basics of some of the more complex features such as Data bases. I would heartily endorse this book to anyone of beginner or intermediate level.
