Hard to put down (0/0 people found this helpful)

Still reading the book and finding hard to put it down. Disappointed when I realise my train is pulling into the station to cut my reading short!! Am continually formulating my thoughts on who did it and as long as I don't get it right at the end - this will have been a winner for me

Diminishing Returns (0/0 people found this helpful)

This novel centres around Chicago Public Defender, Kirsten Mayhew. An obsessed vigilante is murdering criminals that she has failed to convict, and then sending her letters of admiration. Dectective Abe Reagan of the Chicago Police Department is sent to protect her, as it is feared Kirsten could become a target of the vigilante, or other criminals.

I found this story a bit of a disappointment. Having read a number of Karen Rose novels, I am starting to see a 'sameness' about them, which I don't like. I found myself cringing at times, at the dialogue between the two main characters, who were unconvincing. The story was a bit more slow moving, also, in comparison to other Karen Rose novels that I have read. Not one of her best.

Great story but obvious who dunnit! (1/1 people found this helpful)

I hadn't read this author before but liked the sound of it from the back of the book. It was unusual for a thirller in that there is loads of romance in it and it takes more of an emphasis than the killer story which was great, but I have to say that i guessed who the killer was from a very early stage! Still would read more of this author as I liked the romance/thriller combination!

Excellent (1/2 people found this helpful)

The only bad thing about Karen Rose books is when you finish reading them, you can't wait to start the next one. The only thing worse than that is when you have read them all and theres none left to read.

2/5 stars

Main plot okay but poorly written (3/4 people found this helpful)

I had previously read "Die For Me" which I found okay, though certainly not up with the best as far as thrillers are concerned. It seemed like a good idea to try more of Karen Rose's books.
On the positive side, the book kept me occupied enough to finish it, and the basic plot about a vigilante killer 'correcting' the 'wrong' verdicts of the courts was interesting enough. However, this really did not compensate for the failings of the book.
The book was padded out with an excrutiating, fatuous and cliche-ridden romantic sub-plot. Some of the dialogue and narrative was embarrassingly awful. The characters were cardboard and one-dimensional. In the end I really didn't care what happened to Reagan and Mayhew, the two lead players. Reagan's family reminded me of a cross between 'Waltons' and 'Little House on the Prairie'. If you like bucketfuls of saccharine okay but if you like any credible amount of realism forget it.
In the end I really didn't care who done it.
