Reader Reviews:Extremely sad and disturbing. (5/6 people found this helpful)I have just read this book in one sitting. I couldn`t put it down. For one family - and a respectable decent family at that - to suffer so much pain and loss is beyond imagination. You couldn`t make it up. Young steven abducted at 7 yrs of age and held hostage until he was 14 yrs old, all the time being sexually abused by his captor - then escaping and taking with him a little 5 year old who had been abducted by the same man just a couple of weeks before. Steven was later killed in a road accident after marrying, and having two children of his own.If all that wasn`t suffering enough for his poor parents, then steven`s older brother went on the rampage and became a mass murderer !
Deeply Disturbing (3/5 people found this helpful)It seems even in the US abusers are allowed to get away with their crimes and serve ridiculously light sentences, due to inadequate laws and inadequate lawmakers. Legal Loopholes obviously exist why haven't they been closed down? I thought the States were supposed to be tough on criminals?
A must read (4/7 people found this helpful)As a survivor of abuse when I watched the film parts of me not only saw with my eyes but felt with my heart, this was also instigated by the book I was sad to read he died but also know he is at peace and allowed to walk free from pain. A story sadly becoming more common, the survival is worse than the abuse and trying to continue your life after the event is one obtained through many years. Stevens's story is a testament to others who have managed to strive without repeating abuse to the generation after us. His film inspired me to write about my own past and if more kids came forwards maybe some day we will live a life free from abuse of the innocence. Steven now walks among the angels proud, strong and tall a daddy his children can be proud of. Every one should read this book and if the reader wants to skip a page because the writing is to horrific, stick with it and know you are only looking into the life of another and completely safe, and please next time you see some thing that seems odd, act on it. These abusers rely on the ( not my problem, not my child) attitude. If only Steven and others have the luxury of closing the book when it became to horrific!!! Great book. (4/6 people found this helpful)I have read many true crime books over the years (it is my favourite type of read), and this is one of the very best. The story of a small boy's incredible courage to survive 7 years of a living nightmare with a real live monster. Steven was brainwashed into accepting mental and sexual abuse as his lot in life until the monster brought home another little boy (5 year old Timmy White) and he determined Timmy would not suffer his fate. After some failed attempts, the 2 finally make their escape, and are re-united with their families. A stranger in his own home, Steven has a hard time adjusting before finally finding a few years happiness before a drunk driver puts an end to his sad and all too short life. A very good and very sad read. fantastic read (5/12 people found this helpful)i have seen the film of this book and could"nt wait to read the book as always enjoy the books better it makes you realize that you have to watch your own children like mad i find it interesting that there are people in the world that could harm a child as they are so precious to us all would recomend this book to anyone all my friends have borrowed it and find it hard that there are people like this in our world Similar ProductsNo One Can Hurt Him Anymore Whatever Mother Says (St. Martin's True Crime Library) Suffer the Little Children (True Crime) The Missing Girls (St. Martin's True Crime Library) (St. Martin's True Crime Library) Cellar of Horror CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
