Powerfull!!!!!!!!!!!! (0/0 people found this helpful)

This book was a great find, not only does Mike Durant tell about his captivity but he also tells about his military career and a wee bit of history about the nightstalkers. However I did find his constant remarks about his patriotism a wee bit ott. But once one got over that aspect of this book it does make a very fine read.

Touching (1/1 people found this helpful)

The Somalia incident brought many things to light but following an individual soldiers account reveals the personal side of such a harrowing incident. Durants book is an incredibly emotive retelling of his personal story. It has left alot of mental resonance with me. Highly recommended for anyone interested in military history, the somalia conflict or human nature in general.

This is a compelling story about a mission that went terribly wrong, and of the subsequent suffering of one man who came to survive it.
Unfortunately, being written by an American, it contains the usual overdose of 3 elements that tend to stick in the throat a bit (at least of this British reader)
1. Overt Christianity and "my love of God" references (remember this guy is a special forces helicopter pilot directly responsible for killing lots of people!)
2. Over-the-top patriotism "I love America" and how he and his buds are all true American patriots, only doing what they're doing because of their love for America.
3. Constant reinforcement of his special ops credentials ("all special ops guys wipe their ass with their left hand, so i wipe my ass with my left hand because I'm a special ops guy")

I guess this ensures the book sells well in the American market, but did Andy McNabb bother with any of that sort of stuff in Bravo 2-0? NO! and did it make it a lesser book to read? Hell no!

Great! (0/0 people found this helpful)

This is a great read, especially if you read the Black Hawk Down book or seen the movie.

The book is almost like an extension of the movie continuing with the Mike Durant story.

It gives a good insight into what happens after his helicopter was shot down and the dreadful but true fate of one of his crew that wasn't told accurately in the movie/book. (Through no fault of their own, Mike simply chose not to disclose it until this book)

Well written, fascinating and a touching story.

This is truly a great book. It was a pleasure to read, it shows the bravery of two delta force snipers who attempted a to hold of hundreds of angry somalians until reinforcments came. Mike Durrant is a very brave man, i encourage you to read this book because it shows how service personal become a brotherhood and how they will give their lives for their buddies
