Great to move on to from 'Bible stories' bibles (1/1 people found this helpful)
I wanted a complete 'proper' bible for my primary age child that they could read themselves, and could be taught how to find a specific book, chapter and verse. This is it. My 6.5 year old loves it, and although we had a chat about it's thin pages, he manages it fine.

I bought this for my 7yo, and was so impressed with it, I showed it to our vicar - who promptly bought some for Sunday Club! We even used this translation for our recent crib service!
My daughter loves reading it, and having it read to her.
In fact, can I confess to using it for myself, for some of the more difficult to understand parts of the bible?
I agree, the paper is thin, but if it were any thicker, the bible would be difficult to handle, due to its thickness!

My 6 year old daughter uses this bible every night. She has some Bible activity book which she does using this Bible to find the references. I help her find them and she reads from the Bible. It is easy text but I like the fact that is is a 'real' Bible, not just stories. she is learning what the Bible really is and what its for.

Where do you go once your child is moving on from 'Bible stories' to wanting a 'proper' Bible that they can use for daily study with Bible notes etc?
We have started each of our kids off with this version - hardcover or paperback. Though the language is fine for a competent junior-school-level reader, our older two have happily moved onto the youth edition (same language, cooler cover, 'teen relevant' little inserts, but not too gimmicky). The style of this one is probably best for pre-teen - go for the youth one after that.
This is not a book of Bible stories (though there are plenty of good ones around), and I'd agree that the paper is a little thin. The problem is that this is a complete Bible, not a Reader's Digest version, so thicker paper would make it pretty hard to read in bed (which in my experience is where our girls use it...)

I wanted a book of bible stories for my son to read at night before bed. We are not a religious family but he is taught about religion at school and as he had shown an interest in learning more, I thought this would be useful. I spent a long time looking for what might be an appropriate book and thought this was it – a bible for children. I was wrong. My son is an accomplished reader and has been taught to show respect for books. The paper in this book is so thin that you would not give it to a child to read. It would be torn in minutes. The book as a whole about an inch thick and so is quite daunting for a young boy. I would not recommend it unless it is for a parent to read with a child looking on but not touching.
