Reader Reviews:Incredibly Useful (1/1 people found this helpful)As a student it is frustrating how many sociolinguistic books fail to live up to the standards they claim to, not even covering such pillar principles as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis. However, i found this book encompasses evrything you need to know from the introduction of terms and principles to case studies of importance.
Very good introduction to linguistics (0/0 people found this helpful)This is the first textbook of the first linguistics class I took at the University of Arizona. Along with a good teacher, this book inspired me to major in linguistics, which I had never even heard of when I first started college. I would encourage everyone to read this book and to learn more about the field of linguistics. I believe that people would be far more tolerant of one another and many intercultural communication problems would be solved by having knowledge of many of the topics inside this book.
