Reader Reviews:good but...... (0/0 people found this helpful)This is the book you need for the wjjf syllabus, it is spot on, the only thing that lets it down is the lack of the specific orange belt,if you`ve seen the syllabus, yellow straight to green is a big jump.if your learning jiu jitsu this is a must, accurate and informative. I'm not too impressed. (0/0 people found this helpful)I couldn't possibly say that this book is awfull. I certainly think it would be unfair to say that the diagrams and illustrations are inappropriate and poor quality, however I have seen better. This book is aimed at the beginner. If your going to buy a book on Ju Jitsu, its likely that you already practice the art to some degree. Bearing that in mind, it seems to me that a book such as this should include information that the instructor does not include in a normal class. It would be wrong for me to say that this book contains no usefull information, however the information that is included seems muddled and confusing. The pictures don't seem to match the text well. Its not the worst book I've ever seen on Ju Jitsu, however, there are many better texts on white to green belt, and for me the author Robert Clark could have provided more information for the price of the book. A must for beginners (1/3 people found this helpful)Nothing can take the place of correctly structured instruction but this book provides an excellent source for revision and gives insight of what is to come in future grades. I use this book and most others I have spoken to also rate/use this book. Definitley a good resource for beginners. "Every journey starts with a single step..." (1/2 people found this helpful)The white to green belt standard of learning can often be the most difficult for a person new to the martial arts. After these initial belts, all the techniques build off similar principles and use these core techniques in more advanced ways. With his book, Robert Clark starts at the beginning and delivers one of the best introductory books in print. All techniques starting with falling correctly through to the basic throws are covered. For the novice new to martial arts, this book is an indispensible companion and with the rest of the series of a similar high quality, the jitsuka will find help always on hand. With a combination of good quality photographs coupled with helpful text, each series of moves is fully explained and easy to follow. The only down side to this first class book is the lack of other training information. There is no coverage of breathing techniques or strength building exercises. The lack of these is a problem but should not draw attention away from the fact that this is the definitive work for the novice jitsuka. Excellent source of reference (4/6 people found this helpful)Obviously you can't learn Jiu Jitsu solely from a book, but Robert Clark has provided an excellent source of reference in his 160 page book which will provide lots of useful information for beginners or those wishing to attend a J.J class. The photographs are clear and concise and will be invaluable source of reference for anyone who like myself is relatively new to Jiu Jitsu. With a good teacher and this book to hand you can competently train 7 nights per week. I have no problems recommending this book to new and seasoned practitioners of Jiu Jitsu.
