Reader Reviews:What a fantastic little book (7/7 people found this helpful)This was an absolutely invaluable book for our last holiday in Kefalonia. I have to be honest I was more interested in the eating than the walking because when we last went to Kefalonia the food was pretty average and I wanted to find some good restaurants. We went to a lot of the featured restaurants and they were all fantastic, especially Arkondiko in Argostoli and Sunset Taverna (when we found it) in Poros. We even ended up doing some of the walks, especially the ones that went to historical sites. The walk to Assos castle was wonderful, I was so glad we followed the book advice and didn't toil miles up the zig zagging main path, especially as there is not much to see when you get there!
Kefalonia "lite" for package tourists (50/55 people found this helpful)I am disapointed with this book, having waited 6 weeks for it to be delivered I was expecting something far more substantial and up to date than the thin volume I received. The whole book, even though it says it is a new addition seems out of date, referring to Drachma as the currency ( they went to Euros 2 years ago), and resorts which are now developed as "quiet" The history section stops before 1900, the whole of second world war seemingly irelevent. There is only one small map at the beginning. Frankly there is nothing here that you cannot gain from reading a couple of specialist brochures. This book seems more a series of pleasant photos of people sunbathing and of greek vistas with a few helpful hints for the first time visitor to greece, eg expect your meal served lukewarm than an attempt to provide serious visitor information. After using Footprint, Lonely Planet and Rough guides in the past this is no where near the mark. I wont be using Landmark again. A captain Kefalonia (29/35 people found this helpful)This book was extremely helpful. We purchased it with the map and found that all the trips could be easily found. The informal style and wealth of information given obviously showed a passion for the island and this enthusiasm reflected onto us. The book hadn't prepared us for the beauty of Kefalonia which is probably a good thing! It gave excellent advise for day trips and for sourcing little known, less tourist-y beaches. Petani was stunning!
