THE BEST BOOK SHE HAS EVER DONE. (0/0 people found this helpful)

I Love This Book To Bits, When I First Started Reading It I Couldn't But The Book Down, I Often Stayed Up Late To Read It. This Is Deffintly One Of My Favourite Books. I Have Read This Book 4 Times Already, I Love It That Much, If You Buy It You Will Not Regret It. The Story Is Fab.

it's ok, but not the best book she's ever written (1/1 people found this helpful)

i think that j.wilson is a good writer but i find that she goes into too much detail and she often drifts off into fantasy lands, if you have read most of her collection then you will see where i'm coming from. if you want to create a suspense then you shouldn't give much detail away.. but obv. j.wilson doesn't do this technique, which she should do, as she is an award-winning author.

i'm already half way threw this book and i have to say, it's not really a 'un-put-down-able' book.. i'm wondering if i want to keep reading.. i may as well, i s'pose.. in the meantime my overall reaction to this book: i give it 3/5 cuz it's not the best book i've ever read by j.iwlson.

personnaly i prefer the "mates, dates.." series. as i am 14 yrs old. and the author of this series is superb, i highly recommend them!

Kiss by Jacqueline Wilson (0/0 people found this helpful)

I have read all of Jacqueline Wilson's books , and I think this is one of my favorites . I loved the way that the characters were discribed and that Jaqueline Wilson made them just like us teenagers . The plot was really good and I couldn't put the book down!I think that it is a great book for girls my age , and I will be recomending it .

Underwhelmed (3/4 people found this helpful)

Kiss was an interesting book for me; it marked the only book by Jacqueline Wilson I have read since Love Lessons, which I found to be a complete waste of my time and a disappointment. I wasn't planning to read any more by her but the issue of homosexuality is one that I have been waiting for Mrs. Wilson to touch on for quite some time now so curiosity got the better of me.

I won't go through the story as several previous reviews have done so before me but it leads me on to my main concern with the book- the characters.
In recent years Mrs. Wilson has gained this annoying habit of taking stereotypes and re-using and re-using them. The characters of Sylvie, Miranda and Lucy can be easily likened to Violet, Jasmine and Terry (and whatever the other girl's name was).
Sylvie came across obsessed with Carl and this is the book's prime fault in my opinion. Where the book should have been about Carl and his sexuality and how it affected him and his life, it was more about how it was affecting Sylvie, which isn't so bad in itself but combined with her bizarre obsession with Carl it came across as selfish and really, REALLY grating.
Carl was the only character I really liked out of any of the main characters but even he fell into the Jacqueline-Wilson-Dream-Boy Stereotype- blonde, brown eyes, tall, artistic. I wish she'd put a little more variation into her male characters. It doesn't help distinguish her female characters either, since they all have the same preferences for boys.
Differentiating her characters is made even more difficult by the references to books she makes- almost every book by her recently has mention Jane Eyre and the Brönte sisters and such.

Oddly enough, for a book where the main topic is homosexuality, it was irritatingly downplayed. In the end it was shrugged off with the typical "Well it's probably just a phase!" argument which I felt was a complete cop-out. It made me wonder why she even bothered writing the book if she was going to jump out at the last minute.

Another issue I've seen brought up is the language and things that happen within the book. I, for one, have no problem with it. In fact I congratulate Mrs. Wilson on swearing, which made the teenagers seem more realistic and I would like the say that I found nothing "shocking" or "naughty" about their behaviour at the party and I'm a very reserved girl. I know thirteen year olds like that.

In conclusion, rather than being disappointed (I had no real expectations for Kiss), I was severely under whelmed.
