An absolutely SUBLIME recording--a masterpiece!! (8/9 people found this helpful)
Many years ago I went to France and lived with a family whose mother was originally from England. Whenever she visited her sister in Dorset, she would return carrying "treasures" recommended by her highly literate sibling.
In this way I discovered many books unknown in America, for most of us, and "Lark Rise to Candleford" was perhaps my all time favorite among those she brought back. Many years later, when the UK branch of Amazon went online, I searched for a copy of my own.
Discovering the audiotape was a real surprise, and finding Judi Dench narrating was even more exciting.
I must admit, the tapes surpassed even my wildest expectations--I have already heard each side of the tape at least five times!!!
Dench has so many voices and such ability to bring the history alive that I cannot get enough of hearing her read. I wish there were more of her recordings available--there's nothing quite as wonderful as hearing your favorite books read by such a master of performance. Her reading truly enhances the stories and makes the entire experience more immediate and FASCINATING!!!! MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
