Reader Reviews:A beautiful, moving true story (8/8 people found this helpful)I came across this book when it was recommended to me by Amazon, as I had purchased Joy Adamsons Born Free from them. If you have read that and enjoyed it, you should definitely read this. I really enjoyed reading about the playfulness of the lions (as cubs and as adults) and the gentle affection they displayed towards each other and Gareth Patterson, whom they regarded as one of them. However, at the same time the book is not overly sentimental, and describes how cruel the lions can be as well. The author clearly feels very passionately about his lions, all lions and wildlife in general and mans disregard of nature, for financial gain. The book will make you laugh and cry, but you will also feel very angry. This book is also very informative, as you learn a lot about how lions live and there is also a chapter on elephants.
