this must be the most useless language book ever written. By chapter 6 you are learning the subjenctive. You have for each chapter just for little questions to answer. A complete waste of money,

Latin for dummies, simply put, is excellent! Initially I bought the book to learn a bit of Latin in order to help improve my Italian and French. Quickly after starting to read the book though, I found out the book does not merely teach you Latin; it does so much more! That is to say, not only does it reach the reader in a simple, straightforward very fun method, but it also has great background information about ancient Rome...etc. Plus it can be extremely funny at times, giving jokes and extremely funny conversations between Roman citizens. Oh don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say this book is a book revolving around silly humor- it's just that it uses humor as an effective way to implant new words and information you need to know into your memory.
All in all, I would advise anyone interested in learning basic Latin, fun historical facts and quotes, and having a lot of fun to buy this book without hesitation. Trust me you'll love it.
A final note however. If you intend on chatting fluently with "Caesar" or one of his pals in Latin, you'll need to go further than this book. It's a great start, and definitely a start on the right path. For much more advanced, and more technical stuff, see Wheelocks Latin... (Haven't read that by the way, just telling you I've read.)
