great book (0/0 people found this helpful)

i really enjoyed this book, it was interesting and well written, i found the characters believable in a storybook kind of way and it was my second reading too!
The storyline of a swap between lives was not really practical but as a story great and it was interesting to see what happened, i am surprised more people didn't enjoy this book, i really loved it.

Really bad (1/1 people found this helpful)

If you look at the author photos on Jane Green's books you'll see quite a change from the early ones to the recent ones. Designer clothes, poses carefully calculated to show off her jewelry etc. Lots of style (of a sort) and no substance. Alas her writing has gone the same way, shallow self absorbed characters that the reader couldn't care less about.

If I was to give Ms. Green some advice I'd tell her to stop flashing her cash, we know she's wealthy, we helped her amass that fortune but if she expects us to keep shelling out our hard earned money for the kind of drivel that she's been writing lately she can think again.

Dull and Flat (0/0 people found this helpful)

What a boring novel! I found this terribly dull and flat with page after page of repetitive descriptions of the life styles of the two shallow protagonists Amber and Vicky. Amber Winslow the American social climber, full time wife and mother and Vicky Townsley the single successful English girl leading a tough but hectic life as Features Director of a magazine. The theme of the novel is as the title implys a Life Swap between these two women neither of whom is satisfied with her life. The swap is therefore to see if it is true that in theory the grass is always greener and at the same time provide good magazine copy.
I know this is chick lit and I chose to read it as easy entertainment not expecting a great literary work, but I would have appreciated a story that either I can relate to in some way or has some excitement to offer.
This was not even entertaining so why did I bother? I suppose I just kept hoping it might improve, but it didn't, in fact the ending was as much of a let down as the rest of the book.
I have read three other titles by Jane Green of which I have no recollection at all, somehow I do not think I will be going out of my way to read any more of her novels. That is not saying that I cannot see the appeal they may have to others, just not for me. Too old maybe not the market the author is aiming to appeal to!

Jane Green (0/0 people found this helpful)

This was my first time reading one of Jane Greens books, and I absolutely loved it, however the beginning did go on for a bit, before they swapped lives, and the actual 'life swap' was a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book. In spite of this, I thouroughly enjoyed reading the book, as it had alot of original ideas from Jane Green. I would recommend to you that you read this book.

Too much sugar to be my cup of tea (0/0 people found this helpful)

When I started this book, I couldn't help feeling that the author hadn't really put too much thought into her characters. As I went on, I couldn't bring myself to empathise with these cardboard cut out caricatures.

Though the story is a decent enough idea, it's carried out with too much sugar and not enough grit. That it has a happy ending is hardly a suprise, and there's no kind of struggle or hardship to get to it, and so is basically meaningless.

I finished the book, and did find the odd moment amusing, but mostly found the whole thing too sweet and too pat to be satisfying.
