Reader Reviews:An excellent resource for users learning the Linux command line (0/0 people found this helpful)This is the reference book Linux users have been waiting for. If you have ever struggled with MAN pages then this is for you. Crammed full of examples of commands and how to use them. This book is an absolute bargin for the price and small enough to put in your pocket. One of the few Linux books I use every day, and its well written too. Well worth 5 stars. Extremely Handy Title (3/3 people found this helpful)I am a relative newcomer to the unix command line and found this book to contain loads of useful examples for everyday tasks. Withing minutes of reading this I had found a command I was unaware of but have had a use for on many occasions (tail -f filename).
Great help! (5/6 people found this helpful)I have a small library of linux-related books I've acquired since going over to FLOSS on my home machine but this is the one I've referred to more than any other. It's very readable - even for a newbie - well laid out and goes over the basic stuff you need to know to work from the shell rather than the GUI. My copy is getting very battered from constant-ish reference - as an example, last night I used it to sort out some problems I was having with permissions, and this book's guide to chmodding using octal numerical notation was clearer than anything else I could find. I would definitely recommend it!
