Reader Reviews:One of the best sysadmin texts (0/0 people found this helpful)This is a hidden gem of a sysadmin book. It gets straight to the details of actually setting up all those important services - DNS, DHCP, FTP, Sendmail etc. - without any waffle to wade through. When you need to get something done quickly, as is often the case, this book will show you how. You can then refer to others texts, HOWTO's and manual pages to tweak things when you have the time! There are of course other great sysadmin books, but I really can't think of one other to equal the directness of approach this provides. Deserves to be on your technical bookshelf. http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/ (1/1 people found this helpful)If you need toBuild Linux file/print servers and networks from scratch, Troubleshoot Linux and interpret system error messages
worth the money (2/2 people found this helpful)This will not teach you shell scripting, and command wizardry. It will show you how to set up a network, install software, setup servers (Apache, DHCP, etc). It also shows you for example how to setup ssh and then turn off telnet. These little details are what makes this book special. Excellent book that explains what you really need to know. (3/3 people found this helpful)This book is ideally suited to someone with unix or linux experience and wants to setup things quickly and without having to refer to several sources to find what they really want. The examples used relate to real user environments and are easily understood and performed. My only gripe is that the examples in appendix II are not available on a CD or from the website. Fortunately, the rest of the content is and speeds up implementation. He deserves support for producing such good work so buy the book!
