Listener's Bible NIV MP3 -

A fantastic resource for anyone who cherishes the Holy Bible. As a preacher, I find this extremely useful to hear while I read the Bible at the same time. It just seems to glide through, where before it was often (with all due reverence) something of a chore.

Max McLean is just brilliant. He doesn't over dramatize - and actually his American accent is quite soft and easy to listen to. His reading style exudes authority and is a pleasure to listen to.

I disagree with the comments on the format of the tracks. I would listen to a book or half a book in a block anyway. This will go on my Ipod and will remain there.

As a typical Brit, I was initailly a bit skeptical about an American actor doing the reading; I was afraid of cheesy, insincere, cringeworthiness. On that score I was pleasently surprised - the accent is not noticably American, and the tone of voice is deep and rich, carrying a certain weight and authority.
I found parts of the first half of Genesis to be a bit clunky and disjointed in delivery, giving the reading an un-natural rhythm (the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is almost comical!). At that point, I was thinking I would be dissapointed if the whole recording carried on like that and was tempted to look for another version.
However, he does seem to get into his stride and by Exodus the delivery is smooth and natural - I am now at the end of Deuteronomy and enjoying the readfing very much.
As another reveiwer noted, there were a few issues with getting the thing onto my Ipod, but that was just time-consuming rather than actually problematic. However, this needs to be balanced by the fact that the item is on 4 discs instead of 20, and that I paid £17 instead of £60 odd.
All in all, a good quality recording and at the price a very good value product.
If like me you are a christian who loves the bible but doesn't have enough time to read enough, then this is literally a God-send. I can use my I-pod at work, and have just got through the whole Torah in four days - I haven't had that much reading time on my hands in years.

I have only recently received my MP3 Bible from Amazon, but wanted to express my initial satisfaction.
I am not fanatically religious but wanted to re-read The Bible. I have little free time except when travelling on business, and an audio Bible that could be loaded onto my iPod seemed a good solution. My first choice CD version was not in stock so I selected this version.
I was uncertain of whether I would enjoy an American accent. Fortunately, Max McLean's voice is more mid-Atlantic, and his pace and clear pronunciation make for very easy listening. Some words are stressed or extended a little theatrically, but this adds emphasis. There is subdued background music that is not at all distracting; I find it enhances the reading, but it may not be to everyone's taste. So far, the MP3 Bible looks like meeting my needs completely.
A couple of practical issues:
This is an MP3 format so it will not play on a standard CD player. It can be loaded onto a computer or iPod. I found I had to load it track by track, which is time consuming, but simple enough.
Three tracks had missing information which meant they were saved out of sequence, and I had to edit the track data in ITunes. Again, not a big issue.
Overall, this represents excellent value and provides a very easy way to work one's way through the Bible.

This is a remarkable recording of the NIV. Max Maclean has a mix of authority and sensitivity in his reading of the word. For those who are a bit shy of American accents, M.M. has a nice tone to his voice. All in all it has taken my enjoyment and understanding of the word to a new level. Cant imagine how I did without it!
