Editorial Review:

Provides the up-to-date definitive work on this unique group of extremely variable succulent plants, which are entirely confined to the southern part of the African continent. Each species, subspecies, variety and aberrant colour form is described in detail, including notes on the collectors, origin of names, type localities, distribution, flowers, seed capsule structures and seeds. This book provides nearly 650 excellent colour photographs of Lithops localities, plants in habitat, and close-ups of plants in cultivation. Distribution maps indicate clearly where the various taxa occur.

The Lithops Bible (2/3 people found this helpful)

Anyone who knows anything about succulents and cacti will know the name Desmond Cole. He knows more about the areas and the distribution of these wonderful little plants than perhaps anyone else alive today. The book is a must, both for the casual collector who has only three or four plants to the more serious hobbyists who has a greenhouse full of plants and is scanning the pages of the gardening press for a greenhouse with expandable sides (something I could do with).

The book has glossy photographs of all the species of Lithops and text covering where their distribution area is. How easy a particular species is to grow, flower colour and cultivars of certain species. It also carries all of the author's Cole numbers. These are of course a tremendous help to the serious collector of these unusual plants.

It really is a book worth having in the bookcase, where it will be referred to again and again.
