This is a fantastic guide to Madagascar. I travelled from Tana (capital city) and flew north to Diego Suarez taking in a week trek of the National Parks and then a mad 6 hour bus trip to Ankify and over to Nosy Be for a week. Even thought this means getting up at 4.30am it was the best fun! I doubt that organising this trip would have been as easy and safe without this guide. Local information is accurate and fascinating - beware of the local taboos or 'fady's'....would you be aware not to hand anyone a egg??!! Finding English speaking guides and help in organising the jungle treks was easy with travel and guide offices listed in each town. The Malagsay people are fascinated by Westerners - be aware not to tip people too much money and remember, no matter how much they "faff" about do not raise your voice, point, or lose your temper! Local customs and respect for elders/ the dead ae important here - this guide makes sure you do not make any faux pas. The only information in this guide that is subject to change are the prices. Two things to remember are 1)you can get your entry visa at the airport and 2)there is now no departure tax to leave the country. If you do not speak French, make sure you travel with some one who does, or go on a language course before you depart. I have never been so grateful to be able to speak another language! I highly recommend this work as the guide to pack with you on your travels across the fascinating country that is Madagascar.
