Reader Reviews:How often do you get a historical summary that is a page turner?! (0/0 people found this helpful)I loved this book. Understanding Nepali history is hard if you haven't lived and been immersed in it but Willesee and Whittaker give you all the necessary stories in history leading up to the tragedy including the birth of the monachry, the living goddess and the relationship with the king, the complex Shah/ Rana association, the rise of the maoist movement and so on. The book also provides insights into the rich and intricate Nepali culture but does so in a way that is engaging and thought provoking. I hope they write a follow up when hopefully, the situation in Nepal calms down. Fantastic Book with a Sad ending/ (0/0 people found this helpful)This book describes the History of Nepal and unlike other books, this author does not drag on and has made it short and sweet yet very detailed. It is a very interesting reads as there are vast comparisons between different era of the Nepali History. When the Royal Massacre of 2001 one nears, the author explores to tell of the peoples reaction in kathmandu and their views. It will be interesting for any readers to read as they will find out the gory details about Nepals history and how it has lived more then one royal massacre.
