Reader Reviews:Excellent! She's done it again! (19/19 people found this helpful)This book is the first of a series, the rest of which I now look forward greatly to reading. However, before you read it, I would recommend that you read the Circle of Magic books. I found myself relating a lot more to Sandry in this book than I did in the last series. I did, however, miss the character interaction between the four, and can't wait to read the other books and find out what they've been doing. Tamora Pierce has gone from strength to strength, surpassing her earlier efforts with each new book. Although this is her sixteenth book, there is no character or plot repetition. The dialouge is yet again lively and realistic, and this book ensures I will continue to be a huge Tamora Pierce fan. Another triumph for Tamora Pierce. (6/6 people found this helpful)Magic Steps This is another excellent book by Tamora Pierce. I recommend reading The Circle of Magic series first because the story will make more sense. It is about a boy called Pasco who finds out he is a dance mage (a type of magician). His magic is found by Sandrilene fa Toren who then becomes his teacher. Pasco thinks that his family, who are almost all in the police force, will not want him to learn dancing because it has nothing to do with 'harrier' (the nickname for a Summersea police officer) work. That's until he helps Sandry trap two murderers and their 'mage'. Then his family realise that he could be more suited to being a 'harrier' than they thought. Another part of the story is that two members of the 'Dihanur' family, who are frankincense merchants, are trying to kill off, one by one, all the members of the 'Rokat' family who are myrrh merchants. They succeed in killing five members and make an attempt on a sixth but are caught by Sandry and Pasco, both of whom use their magic to form a net to catch Rokats' murderers and their mage. It's a wonderful book and I also recommend her other quartets; The Song of the Lioness; The Immortals; The Circle of Magic and The Protector of the Small. You won't be disappointed - quite the contrary! (5/5 people found this helpful)This book is amazing. It lives up to all Tamora Pierce's previous books and it proves that not all sequels are bad ones. In this book, Sandry is looking after her sick uncle, away from Winding Circle. Then she sees a boy called Pasco dancing magic, and Lark tells her that as she is the discovering mage, she is the one who must teach him. Sandry ends up having to teach Pasco (which isn't as easy as it sounds!) and she has to find a way to stop the Rokat family being wiped out my two assassins and a mage who works wih the sinister unmagic... Read it - it's amazing. Another book that's out of this world. (3/4 people found this helpful)Sandry, now living with her uncle, finds Pasco Acalon who is an untrained dancing mage. Forced to teach him Sandry realises that both of them must risk their lives to catch a ruthless band of muderers, who grasp unmagic in their fists, to make them into nothingness... A truely brilliant book that will intrige all. A really brilliant book (1/1 people found this helpful)This is the beginning of an astounding sequel to the circle of magic quartet, and even more difficult to put down. Sandry finds herself a pupil who dances his magic and discovers that she and her student are the only ones who can catch the savage Dihanur murderers, who can use magic that will turn them into nothing. I hope that Sandry, Tris, Briar and Daja all meet up again before the last book. CategoriesAmazon.co.uk places this book into the following categories:
