Reader Reviews:Review from someone who is reviewing for the first time (1/1 people found this helpful)I'm a Stephen Fry fan but have only read one of his books before "The Liar" and I did not finish that book because I just could not gel with the public school environment. So, I was hesitant to try this book as it's set in a university but the subject intrigued me. I am really glad that I read it. The characters and environment are much more down to earth (for a secondary modern person) It's a bit heavy going at first with alternate chapters covering two different times in history and it took a long time to get started. However, this proved necessary to set up the scene for the second part which was very entertaining and also thought provoking. By the second half, I was reading it at every spare moment and enjoyed it right up to the last page. I would recommend this book for people who like a good story but also like to ponder about history and all the different ways that history could have unfolded in response to changes in events. If you enjoy movies like "the butterfly effect" you will like this book. Making History (0/0 people found this helpful)Making History doesn't have anything to do with a cat trying to eat a goldfish. It's a story whose basic premise revolves around the question - what would world history be like if Adolf Hitler never existed? Although it is never mentioned, the idea of `many worlds' is an interpretation of quantum mechanics (in case you don't what it is the preceding link should give you an overview of what the topic is about). Don't worry if you aren't that much into physics because the book barely gets into any scientific details, instead choosing to focus on the human angle.
Excellent Novel - Really Engrossing (0/0 people found this helpful)A really excellent novel, engrossing and addictive to the last.
Excellent buy for a bargain price (0/0 people found this helpful)Good delivery time. Was in good condition. Very reasonable price - excellent stocking filler Couldn't put it down (0/0 people found this helpful)I was introduced to Stephen Fry as a writer when I read The Liarand I was hooked. I have since read his autobiography [ASIN:0099457040 Moab is My Washpot]]and his other novels The Stars' Tennis Balls. Others have given you the plot of Making History so I won't bother. What I will say is that I genuinly believe this to be a work of genius. More books please Stephen I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.
