This book is a must. The accompanying CDs seems to do something that no other publication on the subject achieves: Its conversation participants speak slowly and clearly. Each chapter has at the end of it something called "dictation excercises". What this does is read over the chapter conversations extremely slowly and means you take it all in. The only downside to the conversations are that they are spoken in first person plural. It would have been more beneficial for it to be in first person singular. It's handy to have a native speaker to point things like this out to you. I've tried quite a lot of other programmes (Pimsleur, vocabulearn, Colloquial Polish) and this one is the best simply on the fact that the speaks are not talking at a normal rate. The other programmes have just flat out failed in teaching me the language.

This covers the grammar well - but be aware that, contrary to the description, it does NOT contain a single picture or photograph. THESE would have lightened the text, and it was one of the reasons for choosing the book. As it is, it is a heavy-going grammar book.
