3/5 stars

Easy to read but not quite good enough. (3/4 people found this helpful)

I liked this book, I have bought other Osborne books before. I have just taken the exam and passed with reasonable marks. The down side is that this book is sadly not quiet good enough to get you through the exams. Let me explain.

I worked through the book at a steady pace for 5 weeks, I felt ready and aced the questions in the book. So I booked the exam. I then happened to look at the Microsoft book from a friend, and just went through it thinking "why have I not seen that before?"

Also bear in mind that the test questions are much much harder in the real exam and nothing like the ones in this book.

This book is a good introduction, but will not get you through the exam by itself.

More than you need to pass the exam (7/8 people found this helpful)

As an existing NT4.0 MCSE, I recently realised that I had been completely left behind and needed to start upgrading to the 2000 track.

I have been using XP since the first betas started leaking out so already knew my way around but I still did not find this book a chore to read. It does cover all the basics that anyone who has sat a Windows exam should already know but it keeps it interesting. I even found out a few bits of info that I didn't already know.

All in all a very good book, very well written and there is more than enough between the covers to get you through the exam without any further reading. The book is however, no substitute for hands on fiddling as is stressed repeatedly within it's pages. Oh, and I passed 3 weeks ago.

Good beginners guide (3/6 people found this helpful)

Ive read this book through and it is a very good beginners guide to the OS. It is very well laid out with key points highlighted, tests after each chapter, and is written in a very easy to understand manner. I have a feeling though that the book maybe slightly too brief, my next book may well be from a different publisher.

A great resource for preparing for the windows XP exam (13/14 people found this helpful)

I have tried many different books for preparing for my Microsoft exams and I feel like I have finally found resource with valuable essential exam information. The book offers a multimedia CD which contains amazing talk through tutorials so you can learn in many different ways at your own pace. This is a definite must when preparing for the new exams.
