Reader Reviews:Brilliant! (17/18 people found this helpful)I have in fact discovered this wonderful book in its French version (" Poissons de Méditerranée" published by EDISUD) and was impressed by its contents: not only A. Davidson gives us a variety of traditional mediterranean recipes classified by geographical areas but also tells us what the name of each seafood is in several languages (mainly in French, English, Italian, Spanish etc...) which I think is both interesting and fascinating for anyone learning a foreign language like me. I've tried one of the recipes at home (sardines with nuts/black olives paste/ olive oil/ parsley stuffing cooked in the oven - Sicilian recipe) and it was just delicious. I have also found some recipes we cook at home and found them just as good. A. Davidson also gives some very interesting facts about the various fish than can be found on mediterranean fish markets. His approach to Mediterranean seafood is of someone with an open-mind, interested in the people (recipes where given to him by locals) and their traditions. A welcome return of this modern classic (21/21 people found this helpful)Mr Davidson's book is more than a book about food, more than a book about fish, more than a book about the Mediterranean. It is a highly readable treasury of information about Mediterranean and European cultural history, the taxonomy of edible sea creatures of the warmer European waters, and an unparallelled guide to identifying, buying or catching, and preparing the catch for the table.
