Editorial Review:It seems a kind of natural given nowadays that no matter how young you are, if you are famous you need to tell the story of your life. Geri Halliwell did it, Ronan Keating did it and now it's the turn of football hero Michael Owen. Granted, he is not a pop star, but his appeal and celebrity are more than a match for any boy-band member. Of course, half of that appeal is the fact that he is very easy on the eye and has lots of money, but after several stunning performances on the pitch, there's no doubt that it's his footballing skills that are earning him due credit. So after a dizzying ride to the top of his game, Owen here presents his own story, a glossy colourful chronicle of his early years right through his sudden thrust into the sporting limelight. The text is light but readable, but it's the pictures that will attract most of his fans. Michael is presented as more of a fashion model then a footballer, posing in posh designer gear and dark sunglasses, leaning against the bonnet of an extremely expensive sports car or training in lots of well-branded football kits. As well as his footballing career, he talks about his girlfriend (they are childhood sweethearts), his other favourite sports (he thinks he would have become a professional golfer if he hadn't turned to the beautiful game) and his fellow team mates (nothing but praise, naturally). The large format and large pictures mean this "biography" lends itself more to his younger fans and those more interested in his looks than his footballing talent. After reading his story, you realise that in all honesty, his background and personal life are not really dissimilar to most people his age, it's just he happens to have landed himself a highly paid job that places him at the forefront of the media arena. --Joanne Wells Reader Reviews:THE BEST BOOK!
