Pratchett heaven! (0/0 people found this helpful)

I'm a late comer to Terry Pratchett, why didn't I discover him earlier! I'm reading the disc world series in order, and this one is the best so far.
I've read several books of his for younger readers and thoroughly enjoyed them, thought I'd give disc world series a go, and glad I did. If you haven't tried Pratchett, please, please do!

You cannot put it down (0/0 people found this helpful)

After being lent this book i had to buy my own copy because I could read it again and again! This is one of my favorite Pratchett novels, his writing is fluid and hilarious and his characters are so alive when you are reading.i just got lost in this book.i dont know if it was because I love his portrayal of death having a mid life crisis or just because it has a fantastic storyline.basically death has decided to find an apprentice and this comes in the form of a boy called Mort.the way the story plays out is funny and no amount of describing it would do it justice so READ THE BOOK!!!!

Death and Curry (0/0 people found this helpful)

The forth Discworld novel, `Mort' is the first to centre on the character of Death and is probably my favourite of the early Discworld books. The story sees Death take on an apprentice called Mort who begins to learn the trade and get to know the eccentric members of Death's household. Things get more complicated though when, on his first solo mission, Mort makes a decision that could derail the course of history but with Death becoming more human and Mort becoming less so things only go from bad to worse.

The series of Discworld books that focus on Death and his family are my favourite of the Discworld series and while this book is probably the weakest of that series it is still one of the better books from the early novels. The plot is good and the characters are all as interesting as you would expect from Discworld characters. Death himself is easily the best character in the book and this book is where he first starts becoming one of the best characters in the Discworld series. The style of writing is still not as polished as some of the later books but it is still recognisably Terry Pratchett.

Death takes a holiday? (0/0 people found this helpful)

I own every book by Terry Pratchett and I freely admit that they are pretty well all un-put-downable. Mort is one of the earliest Pratchett books I read and I was hooked. My second favourite is, I think, Night watch, but as for Mort, 'Not BOY, Mort!' Superb, funny, brilliant, sad, hilarious. Pratchett at his best.
'I could murder a curry'. HA. Incredible line.

I hate to say it but... Terry should stick to the novels... (0/0 people found this helpful)

I've had a bit of a hard time getting hold of a copy of this but I've finally managed it. And it was worth every penny just to have it in my collection. But as far as the comic actually goes, it's fairly mediocre.

I'm very, very, very sorry to have to say this but Terry Pratchett's adaption just isn't up to standard.

You see, I've been a Discworld fan for about 13 years now. I've read every Discworld book (novel and otherwise) at least twice. But I'm also an avid reader of graphic novels so I have quite a wide and varied experience in reading this medium.

The illustrations are wonderful and the whole reading experience was very enjoyable, but without prior knowledge of the novel this comic would have left me behind on more than one occasion. I fully realise that most of the people reading this comic book are going to be Discworld fans who are bound to have already read the novel, but that's entirely beside the point. A graphic novel should be a story told through appropriate illustrations and clear concise dialogue that keeps the story clearly out there for the reader to see. And this just didn't have that. (Well it had the right pictures, but without the right wording it's not enough).

I hate to criticize my favourite author, and I certainly couldn't have done a better job myself, but when it comes to the Discworld comic book adaptions I've always found them wanting.
