Reader Reviews:

2/5 stars

Really predictable, rushed ending. (0/0 people found this helpful)

I enjoyed Jane Green's style of writing, but absolutely agree with the reviewer who said the main character is basically a prostitute prepared to whore herself to an even more annoying character. However what was most frustrating about the main character was that the reader is clearly supposed to like her. Perhaps it would have worked if Libby was supposed to be hated.

The ending (don't panic, I'm not about to spoil it!) was predictable and completely boring and unimaginative - perhaps Green was in a hurry to make dinner. The book is easy enough to read and follows a typical chick-lit style, but I wouldn't worry if you accidently leave it on the beach - or drop it down the toilet where it belongs!

Thoroughly enjoyable, I couldn't put it down. If you want an easy read this will suit you.

Libby is really unlikeable which is the main problem (0/0 people found this helpful)

I admit to loving a bit of chick-lit every now and again, it's my guilty pleasure! I love Maeve Binchey, Marian Keyes, Lesley Pearse and my favourite, Lisa Jewell. I'd not tried Jane Green, so picked this up from the library.... and was massively disappointed!

I found Libby, the main character, to be such an unlikeable character - she's shallow and only interested in money and labels. I couldn't idenify with her at all - she only votes tory because her parents do and is totally uninterested in politics (which I find ridiculous!), she can't name a charity, she hates all pubs and thinks that women who drink pints are horrible. she wears clothes that i wouldn't be seen dead in, and goes to horrible 'classy' bars.
I found Jane Green's characters to be very stereotypical, and little offensive - you are either a right-wing, self-absorbed, label-wearing, white-wine drinking, man-obsessed, BEAUTIFUL, woman, or you are left-wing, scruffy, pint-drinking, UGLY, political woman. hmmm....really??
I found all the characters to be wholly unlikeable - Libby was horrible, Nick wasn't that nice either to be honest, (and their relationship is ridculous - if they are both as Jane Green writes them to be, then they simply would NOT get on - or have anything to do or talk about, without one completely changing their personality), we were supposed to dislike Ed, but actually, I found him quite sweet, and charming, his only failing seemingly to be that he had a moustache and was inexperienced in bed...let's hate him then shall we?

honestly, this was a terrible read. Like I said at the beginning, I love a bit of pulp fiction every now and again, but this was just insulting!

What a read! (1/1 people found this helpful)

Well what can I say? This book had me gripped from beggining to end. I couldn't put it down. The plot was fantastic. I could totally relate to Libby and I'm sure many other women could too. I don't usually leave reviews on books but I felt with this book I just had to let everyone know what a book it is. I was so tempted to jump to the last page to see what was going to happen but I'm so glad I didn't. Much praise for Jane Green.
