Disappointing (0/0 people found this helpful)

I like books about black women and everything to do with them - hair, skin, relationships, etc. Quite a few of the writers described their hurt about being considered as sex symbols just because they were black, therefore I was rather surprised by the unending blow by blow account of their sexual encounters in so many of the essays. Whom were they meant for? I pressed on just aiming to finish the book but this was impossible and eventually I threw it away. I love books and it broke my heart to have to do this. There were a couple of touching stories like the lady who overcame an eating disorder, but these were few and far between. My impression was that most of these women felt they had made mistakes in life and therefore needed to confess to somebody. Well I am no priest.

An excellent read for ALL Black Women! (7/7 people found this helpful)

This book is a brilliant read for each and every Black Woman; dark skinned, light skinned, good hair, not so good hair, fat, thin - whatever!

There are words of wisdom, and lessons to be learned from each piece of writing.
I found that there was a lot of stuff that I could relate to as a young, Black female. Although serious at times, Naked does carry a lot of humour, and at times brought tears to my eyes.

On a personal level, Naked has allowed me to see myself from another angle, and I've even learned to love and accept the things that are and always will be ME!

Essentially this is a book that gives an insight into the realities of being Black and female, and a celebration of Black Women as a whole.
