Atkins by any other name (1/2 people found this helpful)If you do Atkins induction and call a friend once a day, the result will be similar to reading this thickset tome.
Actually Atkins induction works a treat, much to the misery of the flour industry, but no-one can REALLY do it for life, and even when a few carbs are reintroduced it's difficult to manage. It's perfectly healthy, but it costs a lot unless you could care less about battery chickens.
This is a cute book, but it's in no sense new. India and Neris are born-again Atkins, but don't quite like to say so. I was too in 2002, when I lost 45 pounds doing it, but what I've learned in the intervening 4 years is that no-one can keep it up successfully 24-7, even with cheat days, and it may not be healthy to do so.
That said, I haven't regained ALL or even most of the weight - it does do it together with cabbage soup switches, but my sense is that you'd do better with Atkins than with this book.
There is an ongoing thang, too, and it's that Atkins is for gluttons. You can eat a fair bit and still lose, but the result is not the size 0 for which you might have been hoping. It's a great way to go form size 20 to size 12, but not below.
The tips here are mainly findable on low-carb forums, and some of the recipes in the induction phase are not really lowcarb (butternut soup, for example). If you eat what they advise you could well eat too many carbs to trigger ketosis as they keenly advocate a lot fo quite carby veggies like tomatoes.
India's fascination with her poo will be familiar to all Atkins dieters, and what's needed is flaxseed and psyllium in MUCH bigger doses. Water helps as well.
It's also silly to get het up about sweeteners. Splenda does provide the odd lowcarbing treat, and I would seriously suggest googling for faux-Danish if you feel you can't face bacon again. Sugar itself is unnatural and so is white flour.
I had hoped for more from this book. I would urge the internet as a better source fo lowcarbing knowhow. Hilarious though to see the sunday Times signing up to it after all its anti-Atkins scaremongering. This works! (1/1 people found this helpful)I received my copy of this book 5 weeks ago and found it full of good sense. I have been following this way of eating for 4 weeks and have lost 12.5lbs and 12.5" too. My shape has totally changed. I wish I had found it earlier Brilliant book - now out in paperback! (0/1 people found this helpful)This is the wonderful book which changed my life. I am so glad it is now in paperback as I can buy copies for all my friends! It is a wonderful book, full of lots of good sense, for which I am very grateful to its authors - India and Neris. Thanks, too, for the forum - and for Bee! It's working for me! (6/7 people found this helpful)I saw the Idiot Proof Diet being discussed on Richard & Judy in January, it all sounded so simple and probably too good to be true... I thought.
I hear there was a forum online and went to investigate. I was so impressed by the support that was there that I decided to buy my book through Amazon.
I read the book and decided to start.
Having been one of the many people who get conned by the never ending barrage of 'junk mail' offers of being 'slim' overnight - and none of them ever working, which is hardly surprising really! I must have spent hundreds of pounds over the years on them.
I have been using this 'diet plan' for 4 weeks now and have lost just over 9lbs. It is so simple, it definitely works and I feel absolutely fine!
This was the best £3.99 I have ever spent!
As for it being expensive to do, well GOOD food is not cheap! Let's be realistic about this. I also have to disagree with the notion that you have to be a stay at home middle class mum, simply not true! I have a business and I work 7 days a week.
I use fresh, wholesome ingredients and I can actually see my food as it was meant to be instead of being processed and added to!
As my appetite has diminished, I am actually using less food, so therefore it cost about the same. The book gives comprehensive instructions and if anyone needs to know anything,or needs some support there is the forum.
Up to yesterday, the group total of weight loss in one year is a staggering 7168.4lbs - which is 512 stones!!
I say, if you are in doubt, get the book and see for yourself. Finally! (6/6 people found this helpful)Just to make a point about this diet apparently being for "middle class mums who have all day to cook", nope, it's not. I'm a single parent, and a carer for my two wonderful disabled children. time and money are both in short supply in my house. However, I don't find this difficult to stick to, or too expensive to follow. There are low cost options, and let's face it, if you're not shoving your face full of cakes and biscuits, you can use the cash you would have spent on the diet friendly stuff.
I love the way the book addresses the "headstuff" before you read about any of the actual eating plan, and it really has helped me address some personal issues and realise a few home truths. I'm on the initial 2 week list of allowed foods long term, having a lot of weight to lose, and I feel really and truly healthy eating this way. My skin is better, I wake up refreshed in a morning and so far, I've lost 24 pounds, dropped a dress size and I can finally see a day where I'm going to be the ideal weight for my height. I've tried weight watchers, I've tried slimming world, I've tried books and self help and hypnosis. None of them are as easy to stick to as this is. Similar Products
