Poor Performer (1/1 people found this helpful)

I found the book gave the basics in networking, however I felt that it covered some very broad strokes in assisting with passing the exam.

Great Book (3/3 people found this helpful)

I was very unsure which book to buy as there are so many of them; I nearly didn't buy it because of the first review on this page. However, the intention was simply to pass the exam which I did 4 days after I started reading. The style and layout make it easy to read, and the odd crap joke doesn't detract anything from learning the subject. It's worth mentioning that I have very little practical experience of networking, so I guess even more credit to the book.

Adequate (4/4 people found this helpful)

I recently passed the A+ Hardware exam with the help of the really excellent A+ Exam Cram book. Not being able to get hold of the new Exam Cram Network+ book, I purchased the Network+ for Dummies from Amazon last week. In comparison with Exam Cram, I find the format and content of the Dummies book fairly poor. The subject is presented in a jolly, jumbled, we're all dummies - hip hip hurrah, sort of way and as for the constant bad jokes! They get really quite irritating after a while! I would much rather have the information laid out clearly and systematically.

Also, the book is in my opinion too much geared towards just passing the exam. The reason I say this is that you are constantly told that "for the exam, just know this fact...". It's true that (particularly with the network+ exam) there are some key facts and figures you have to know but to me it's better to give someone a good grounding in the subject so they have a deep enough understanding to figure it out the tricky questions rather. It also makes the whole process of passing the exam more meaningfull.

Having said all that, there are some things I like and the information you need is all there. I like the tests at the beginning and end of each chapter and the CD test simulations are good.

In conclusion, I'm sure (I hope) that it will get me through the exam but if I could get hold of the Exam Cram book, I wouldn't give this a second look.

Excellent (5/5 people found this helpful)

I bought the Network+ certification for dummies book a week ago and since it has arrived, I am unable to put in down. It makes for easy reading whilst at the same time tackling those subjects we shiver at when here the mention of their names. I substituted this purchase with the N+ Exam Cram book, but haven't had a second glance at it since I started this book. I am just under half-way though and I am sure the second half will be as exciting as the first. Thank-you for a truly, wonderful book.

Passed from scratch in two weeks (5/5 people found this helpful)

An excellent book, that is as entertaining to read as it is to learn. I had to do this test in a hurry and passed ith a very healthy score. Highly reccomended
