New York revealed! (1/1 people found this helpful)

This small pocket book is simply ingenious! I've been to New York serveral times before i ever bought this small book, but i do regret i didn't find it sooner.
It has the perfect combination of a guide to the city shops, restaurants, museums and the like, and a map of the city, and the subway.
I've read many guidebooks for New York, and most of them contain the same material. So why buy a huge expensive book, when you can get the same info in pocket size? Furthermore, the great detailed map (popout map) is easly to navigate by, and very helpfull for finding the places descriped in the book! The only thing lacking in the guide-part of this book, is the history of New Tork and it's architecture. That is - however - not quite so important for the "normal" tourist.

This pocket book also contains a small compass. Now at first i thought it was rediculous. What would i need the compass for? Well, i'll tell you. After being underground in the Metro, returning to the surface, you will quickly discover that you've lost all sense of what's north, and what's south. This is where the compass comes in handy! First of all, you can spot the exact location on the popoutmap where the metro station is. Then you can use the compass to fugure out what way to go next. When tanding in a crosssection with absolutely no idea of whats north and south, is quite frustrating whn trying to locate a museum! But... the compass takes care of this.

Further more, the book contains a pen, and penty of space to write notes in. There's also a funny little "parlour" to the New York slang language... not very usefull, but quite entertaining. There is however very usefull information on how to tip, how to get from the airports to the city and such.

To summarize all my small fragmented notes from above: this guide is perfect. It has a great and usefull map that pops out. A handy compass so the you can navigate when confused about your position to the north or south. A small but good guide to the nightlife, museums, houses, sightseeing, shops, restaurants, hotels and more. Infomation pages on various usefull topics (how to get to/from the airport, taxiservices, phone connections, area codes, tippings, traditions and costums i.e.). And a pen to write your own notes. All collected in a small book. Small enought to fit most pockets, and easy to carry around.
