I bought this on the strength of the Barcelona edition. The strength of this series is that it is a extemely handy way to carry around a map, guide book and pen when you're exploring a city. The covers are hard plastic so it is a durable package and it is genuinely pocket-sized.

The map is ingeniously designed in how it folds out, so you can see where you want to go in clear detail without looking conspicuously touristy.

The reason this gets four stars rather than five is that to achieve the convenient size the guide book section is a little thin on the ground. If this is the only guide you buy you may also find it a little lacking in background detail.

I would still recommend this product as it can prove invaluable but due to the sprawling nature of New York it isn't sufficient on its own.

There's nothing worse for a tourist then struggling with a huge map in the middle of a city you barely know. The one thing I love about these inside books is that they contain a brilliant pop up map, making life as a tourist much easier and certainly more discreet. These books are a handy size, which means they can fit in your jeans back pocket or a small, great when you are sightseeing or even on a night out! They are not the most thorough of travel books but they are perfect for those staying in the city for about 2-3 days. Information is given about the main sights, shopping, eateries, hotels, entertainment and each place has a map reference and a price rating so that there is something to appeal to all budgets. I have to admit I didn't use the compass but the pen is dead handy and there is a blank page at the back of the book for those all important numbers you may need to write down when you are stuck without any paper or pen.

For anyone staying in the city for a long time, you will probably prefer a more extensive travel book such as the 'lonely planet' but I recommend this as a great supplement for any traveler even if its just for the map!

Excellent guidebook which you can take with you on your trip. I've bought many many New York books for each visit, but this one was the best by far. Considering its size, you couldn't really ask for more. The fold out maps at the front are very useful and very clear.

Highly recommended!
