This is a lovely book with a perfect cross between family favourites and more impressive looking dinner party style puddings. Every dish has a photo which certainly adds to the temptation to cook it but also inspires the reader try something new as you can see how its meant to look. Nick gives tips on alternative ingredients etc at the bottom of many of the recipies making them possible sometimes to make them on the spur of the moment using ingredients already to hand. The only fault I can find in the recepies that really do work out well every time is that he doesn't give an estimate of how long the dish is likely to take. Many books do this and are wrong in their timings but at least you know not to start one that is supposed to take 2 hours, just 20 minutes before dinner!
