Nickolai of the North

My name is John. I am 7 years old. I have just read Nicholai of the north and loved it!
I think it is one of the best books in the world.
I hated Magda and I loved Nicholai and his friends.
I can't wait to read another book from the same author. She is very good and her stories are brilliant.

Two pages into reading this aloud to my 10-year-old he gave a deep sigh of contentment and said, "I love books written like this." For the next week, he disappeared every night to read it to himself in bed, and I knew I'd found one of the books that I'm always looking for with a reluctant reader.
Nickolia of the North is about the childhood of Santa Claus or Father Christmas, the baby elf boy who survives when the evil elf queen Magda turns all the other elves at the North Pole into stone by stealing their Light Fairies. Plucked from the jaws of her wolves by a flying reindeer and dropped down the chimney of a childless couple, Nickolai has to keep his pointed ears and fairy soul secret - until his adoptive parents and best friends are persuaded to come to the sinister gold city Magda has created. Packed with exciting action, charming reindeer and hints of the life to come this is a really delightful book. It just misses 5 stars because I felt that the characters weren't explored in sufficient depth, but it's one of the best Christmas stories I've come across.

This book is a delightful, heartwarming story about Father Christmas with a fabulous design cover. In between the pages lies a secret for all to discover. The book is a real page-turner and answers many children's questions about Santa. The book is great value for money and will keep your child quiet for hours on end. This book was given as a present on Christmas morning and was finished several hours later!!!

One of the most captivating Christmas stories there is!! It is a little old for the under 5's, although they will enjoy the story as they understand it. Like Polar Express this book will keep the magic of Christmas alive in the over 6's for a good few years to come. I now have an 8 year old who is not doubting anywhere near as much as he was. This book is lovely and deserves to be a huge hit.

Christmas is coming and this for my money is the ideal present for young and old alike. It's a cracking good yarn and a completely new spin on the Santa tale. All the elements of a traditional Christmas are there, including the reindeer, with Nickolai as a new folk hero and central character. Add into the mix a wicked witch, a two headed monster,a hideously spoilt child who behaves rather like a public school prefect and a wonderous ice kingdom, where for some lip biting time it looks like evil is going to triumph over good, and you have an idea of some of the ingredients of this gripping tale. I won't spoil the end for you but this first book by Lucy Daniel Raby deserves to be a block buster and I hope she follows it up with more tales of young Nickolai of the North. It's a real page turner. Buy it.
