Reader Reviews:A Tale for Today's Atrocities (2/2 people found this helpful)The voice of a young girl recounting this rare documentation of human genocide from the past.. as vivid and fluid as a piece of poetic fiction yet cleverly interspersed with fact ..bears the stamp of great literature. A slap in the face for revisionists (5/9 people found this helpful)Thea Halo's book is a stunning indictment of genocide and the attempt by some nations such as Turkey to revise history. Unlike the Holocaust and other genocides of the twentieth century, the Turkish attempt to wipe-out the Pontian Greeks and the Armenians has been hidden and obfuscated. The Turks have never accepted responsibility for their barbaric acts and continue to deny this black page in their history. Even Hitler said, when planning the Holocaust of the Jews 'Who remembers the Armenian genocide by the Turks?'. This books is a well-written, heart-wrenching account of how a whole population was wiped out and man's barbarity towards man. The Pontian and Armenian genocides are well-documented and all the lying in the world by the Turks will never change this. Wow (7/10 people found this helpful)In this world of massive book publishing, it is a rare treat to find a book that really moves you. This is what Thea Halo's book does. It is the story of her mother and her family, who were forced, along with millions of others, to leave their homes in Pondos of Asia Minor and walk endless miles towards Syria. It is also about how she rebuilt her life in the USA. A fascinating, moving and real story. good story far from reality (7/25 people found this helpful)Although the story is fluent and stylish, the facts are far from reality and do not give a true insight to the Turkish side. The so called genocide is rarely accepted worlwide and the reasons of the Armenian events are not questioned, the betrayed Turkish feelings are nor revealed when the ethnic minorities turned their back to the empire for so long protected their rights and coupled with the invaders. It is not fair to call it a genocide. Many Turkish were also cruelly tortured but this side is hidden in the book. I recommend it for fiction story seekers but not to researchers.
