Child Phones It In (0/0 people found this helpful)

This is certainly a far cry from some of the other thrilling books Lee Child has penned. I get the impression, NOT that Lee Child has lost his touch, but that he just didn't really put enough time and effort into it. I don't think he was particularly inspired to write this book, as a result, the idea is a bit half-baked, the action is padded out and the characters do things because they aid the story, not because it is a normal thing for the characters to do. I love Jack Reacher as much as the next guy, but this story is more "Lee Child Meets a Deadline" than "Jack Reacher Has an Adventure".

Not the best by a long way (0/0 people found this helpful)

Lifeless plot and tedious. I bought this in a two book deal from amazon, buy one get another cheaper. The paired it up with a new author called Conrad Jones, Soft Target. Absolutely brilliant story which nearly made up for how disapointing this one was!!!

Another great Reacher story (0/0 people found this helpful)

Twelve books into the Jack Reacher series, Lee Child is still creating heart-pounding, edge-of-the-seat excitement.

As Nothing to Lose begins, Reacher, that peripatetic former US military officer, tries to get a cup of coffee in a small, dusty southwest town. They don't want to give it to him - and not only do they refuse to give him the coffee, they run him out of town. And that's all it takes to make him curious, and cranky. And a curious Reacher is a dangerous Reacher.

The action moves between Hope and Despair - the two towns at the center of the story. Hope is everything one would hope for in a small US town. Despair, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the forlorn hamlets in the old Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns: owned lock, stock, and barrel by bad guys who have the locals completely under their thumb. Reacher's curiosity and stubbornness lead him to the heart of the evil; a charlatan with a frightful hidden agenda.

Reacher has never been more fierce in doing the right thing, and Mr. Child has written yet another compelling tale. Entertaining, gripping, and suspenseful, this book will have you turning pages as fast as you can.

Has Jack had his day (0/2 people found this helpful)

For me the last 2 have been disappointing, In anticipation of the release i thought i would go through my old collection and re-read a few of them and they still have got the Jack Reacher we all know and love the man who snipers people, who ambushes them, shoots people without a thought, who teaches the bullies a lesson, who sticks up for the victims and doles out his own sweet punishment "Reacher style" This sadly is all missing, it's the last time i will buy on release, next time perhaps i'll wait for the paperback.

Oh dear Lee, What went wrong this time? (1/2 people found this helpful)

I love Lee's Reacher series and like so many others have ready every single book and await the new one on it's day of release. But after reading NTL, and this took almost a week instead of the usual two day's, I asked myself why I had bothered. The plot, if it can even be called that, is bizare and thin. So thin it's just full of holes like a Swiss cheese. Reacher seems to be running on autopilot (Or is that Lee?) and the book simply does not flow because of this unlike the rest of the series.

I just hope that Lee and our hero Reacher are back on form in the next installment as NTL is simply a big, big letdown.
