Reader Reviews:Enjoyable (0/0 people found this helpful)I wouldn't say this is one of Sebastian Failks best but for me it beat Birdsong but that's only because I hated Birdsong.
Astoundingly bad (6/11 people found this helpful)First off, I really enjoyed Birdsong and Charlotte for their sheer entertainment value. With that in mind, I looked forward to Green Dolphin Street. It's almost as if this novel were written by a different author. The writing, the editing, the awkward use of words were all terribly jarring. But far worse was the absolute lack of plot. What made his other novels so enjoyable were their storylines. This novel gives you little more than an insipid love story -- and is not even remotely interesting at that! The characters are poorly drawn, without ever giving any idea of their motives for doing anything (not that anything much happens over the course of 300 pages.) Not only do you feel no sympathy for the characters, you never even feel like they are real. Lastly, I live in Washington were much of the story takes place. I only wish the author had done a bit more research or spoke to some who lived in this town. His factual errors (and there are plenty!) are inexcusable. All I can ask is WHAT HAPPENED???
