A Really Useful Companion (2/2 people found this helpful)

OpenOffice.org is a really useful companion to the OpenOffice software and essential if you want to get the very best out of this programme. You may only need to dip into it now and again - to find out how to solve a particular issue or do something more effectively - but you can be almost certain that the answer will be there waiting for you.

Absolutely fantastic (8/8 people found this helpful)

This book is a joy to read, It seems strange that I should say this about such a dry subject, however after reading the first few pages I have discovered a computer program that I can legally give to anyone that I like. The open source computer program is very good. The book not only sums up what you can do with the program but also goes into the details and answers those annoying questions that you get with all computer programs. The ease of use of the book and the program never cease to amaze me. I have been so please with it I have now bought 6 copies and given them to friends, teachers and polititions. I love it.

Good book. CD is very helpful. (11/11 people found this helpful)

I am very pleased that there is now a book and CD available for OpenOffice.org, so that one no longer has to download from the openoffice site or gather the howto documents scattered all over creation. This OpenOffice.org package here is what anyone needs who wants the "OpenOffice.org package", everything in one place, like a regular program with documentation.

The book is excellent. I learned several new tips just paging through the book the first time, which I would not have divined on my own. File > Export, by the way, to send drawings to GIFs or JPG, not File > Save As. There is a nice set of tutorials to start one off easily and the style is very readable. There is a good section on the advanced Calc (spreadsheet) tools like Scenarios. Goal Seek, and document comparison that I found very easy to follow and am incorporating into my home budget planning spreadsheets.

I highly recommend this user's guide/CD package instead of StarOffice. Staroffice is excellent software as well but costs about three times as much as this OpenOffice.org for little additional value.
