Reader Reviews:a decent starting point (0/0 people found this helpful)smith provides a very useful history of the conflict in the middle east in terms of its ancient history, origins and more modern issues. usefully, the work has been updated regularly to take account of new developments. perhaps even more usefully, each chapter is accompanied by a timeline of events and extracts from the most relevant documents. the writing is good, not too dense, and the use of maps is also appropriate.
